hoboのものづくりにおける基本理念である"こだわり"を紹介してゆく『PHILOSOPHY』。今回はhoboの代表作でもある革小物にフォーカス。
In this section we will be introducing, what we consider the most important aspect of our production, quality craftsmanship. This feature will focus on the production of hobo leather goods.
各パーツごとに分けられた型紙は、詳しく縫製仕様が書き込まれている。 hoboの立体的なデザインはここから始まる。
This is how every 3-dimensional hobo product begins. The pattern for each part is laid out one by one with detailed sewing instructions written on each.
型紙をもとに製作された刃型。ナイフで革を裁断するのではなく裁断の精度を高めるために事前に刃型を製作する。
Instead of using a knife, cutting dies are used, providing increased accuracy.
先端は切れ味の鋭い刃になっている。パスポートケースの製作にもパーツごとに6つの刃型を使用する。
The edge of the cutting die is like a sharp knife. In order to produce a single hobo passport case 6 different cutting dies are used.
20トン近くの裁断能力の高い油圧式クリッカー。刃型を乗せてひとつひとつ打ち抜きしてゆく。
The cutting dies are placed in this hydraulic press. It applies nearly 20 tons of pressure as each piece is cut.
こうして厚みのある革が抜き取られ1つのパーツが出来上がる。
Here a single part is pulled from the press.
ドイツ製の機械で革を瞬時に一定の厚さに漉いていく。
This German-made machine presses the leather into the correct thickness.
一枚ずつ出来映えを左右させる最適な厚みかを測定する。
The thickness is then checked with this measuring tool.
均一の厚みに整え終えたパーツ。切り込み部分はカードの差し込み口になる。
Each part is the same thickness. The lines cut are for inserting cards.
組上げてみるとパスポートケースの全貌が少しずつ伺える。
As the parts come together piece by piece, the passport case begins to take shape.
縫製前に付属するパーツを打ち込む。これはストラップを止めるギボシを打ち込む作業。
Before sewing, rivets are hammered in place. These are for leather straps that are used to bind the passport case closed.
パーツを接着させる為に先端にゴムのりを付着させる。
A fine tip is used to apply glue that holds the parts together.
ゴムのりを付着させる事で製品の強度を高め、縫製の精度が高まる。
Applying glue not only strengthens the product but also enables more accurate sewing.
製品の顔とも言える縫製。一針一針丁寧にハリを落とす。一寸の狂いも無く直線を保つ。
The key feature of this product is the quality sewing. Taking great care, the needle pierces the leather stitch by stitch without deviating from its line.
仕上げには革の断面(コバ)の両角を削り表面を整えていきます。専用のりで何度も繰り返し、時間をかけて丹念に磨き上げる。
The finishing touches involve shaving the cross-section of the case to create an even edge, and then painstakingly and repeatedly polishing it with a special paste.
耐久性、撥水性さらには柔軟性にも優れたオリジナルレザーの小物が完成。手間隙かけて完成した商品からは手仕事の美しさが実感できる。
Durable and water repellent yet still soft in composition, the hobo original leather products are complete. Looking at the completed products, the time and care taken to finish each piece is evident, as is the beauty of fine craftsmanship itself.
